Show Notes

Welcome to BuiltOnAir, a podcast and video series about all things Airtable. Each episode, we talk with someone active in the Airtable community to discuss their experiences and showcase an interesting way they’ve used Airtable in their work.
In this episode we speak with Shae Redding – Rogers, an architectural photographer based in New York. Earlier this year, Shae was one of several speakers at the first-ever Airtable User’s Conference organized by Chris Dancy, where she showcased her unconventional contacts manager base. Shae gives us a more in-depth view of that base to highlight how it came to be, and how it helps keep track of all the people she meets across professions and social circles. While Shae may consider herself a newbie, she’s not afraid to seek out formulas, Zapier integrations, or Automation scripts to further improve upon her base. In fact, later on in the episode we brainstorm a couple formulas to help automate her work just a bit more.

Formulas we talked about in the episode:

  • IF({TheYear} = YEAR(TODAY()), “yes”, “no”)
  • IF({TheYear} = YEAR(TODAY()), “This Year”, IF({TheYear} = YEAR(TODAY())-1, “Last Year”, “no”))
  • SWITCH({Alignment Type}, “Appt”, “emoji”, “Email”, “*another emoji”)
